Books by Dr. Karen Hayes

A 1979 graduate of the University of Illinois' College of Veterinary Medicine, Karen was in private practice for several years, joined the faculty at Wisconsin's veterinary school and earned a post-doctoral master's degree in equine reproductive physiology, then returned to broodmare practice. She and her husband live in northern Idaho on a 100-acre farm where they've raised Friesian Horses since 1986.

"My goal when I started The Perfect Stall project, quite frankly, was to provide top-notch accommodations for my own horses. I figured it'd be too expensive and impractical, that other horse owners probably wouldn't be interested, but I felt I owed my horses a lot - they've given me so much pleasure, and produced some outstanding foals. When The Perfect Stalls -I mean the stalls themselves - were completed and I put them to use, it was a pleasant surprise to learn that they're not only affordable and everything I hoped they'd be for my horses, they're actually a huge money saver. I hadn't realized how much money I frittered away, year after year, maintaining my old fashioned stalls."

The Perfect Stall project didn;t end with the publication of "The Perfect Stall" book. Since then, the research has continued, and "Perfect" has continues to evolve, resulting in two new additions for the horseman's bookshelf: "Help Your Horse Live a Good, Long Life", and "How To Be The Perfect Horsekeeper."

Karen accepts a limited number of invitations to speak to horse-care-related organizations on subjects of breeding, foaling, general horse care, senior horse care, and The Perfect Stall project.
